SPORE Art Salon 42nd Edition : 24 May!



Hey hey! We're back from the virtual world, to a 'prime time' Saturday evening slot at Artistry this 24 May! The 42nd Edition features young musician duo with a taste for tunes of everything Celtic...  Bani and Ila, returning since our very first Halloween Edition in 2011, for a very atmospheric treat of visuals from overhead projections, various instruments and spoken word!
Last but not the least, our featured visual artist this month is Cherin Sim, leather crafter!

CHERIN SIM (visual artist)

Born in Singapore in 1987, Cherin Sim is an artist who is trained in painting. She frequently employs installation to express her concerns about consumer culture. The inspiration behind her pivotal work, "A Birkin For You?", 2008, became the foundation for her subsequent pieces which often blurred the boundaries between fine art and fashion design.
Besides being an artist, Cherin is also an accomplished bag designer who has collaborated with international brands. She was conferred her second international award in 2009 in the Design-A-Bag Competition, where she was invited to Hong Kong Fashion Access to receive the prize. In the same year, she received the Winston Oh Undergraduate Practice Award. In 2013, she received the Winston Oh Postgraduate Research Scholarship and had her first relational art exhibition, "Bringing Back Tradition: The Leather Workshop”, in Singapore after being trained in leatherworking in Italy.


THE CELTIC ROVERS
SHYNZ PRODUCTIONS presents an Irish music performance by Celtic Rovers for SPORE Art Salon. The Celtic Rovers are made up of two classically trained, unique individuals, namely, Pamela Ng and Michelle Ong. The dynamic duo met in 2011 at their tertiary institution's piano ensemble where they started actively performing piano duets and classical works for school and charity events. Compelled by the beauty of Celtic music, they subsequently turned to playing Irish medleys on tin whistle, guitar and bodhrán (a traditional Irish drum). The pair hopes to share their experiences on folk music with the general public.
SHYNZ PRODUCTIONS (SP) is an arts edutainment company dedicated to raise the appreciation and awareness of performing arts. Headquartered and established in Singapore, the aim of SHYNZ PRODUCTIONS is to promote all styles and expressions, of music and dance performances where SP performers interact effortlessly with the audience and bring that extra dimension of sparkle to events. With a deep pool of talented musicians and dancers, SP's dedication to performing arts has entertained and educated all walks of audiences in Singapore and beyond.

bani haykal + ila is an audio-visual performance duo utilizing spoken word, overhead projections and various instruments. Their work is rooted in site-specific performances and revolves around thematic improvisation. Interested in the blurring of experiences between sight and sound, the duo create passages based on their individual interpretation of each other's medium.
They are currently presenting a new body of work, "microprocess #1".

MAISHA
Maisha is a lecturer, acoustician and a trained musician. Two years ago, she began to take an interest in the Arabic language and developed a special interest in oriental dance. In order to expand her knowledge of the dance, Mandy trains constantly with both local and international professionals. Her favourite style is Egyptian folkloric.
