SASS are three girls set to rock your world with their powerful vocals and beautiful harmonies.

After watching an a cappella concert one day, a few girls decided they really needed to get together and sing. They started doing covers of songs, entered a competition, and became SASS – the girl vocal trio.

SASS entered the music scene with a bang, besting the competition to win the coveted Grand Champions of the World - Best Vocal Group title at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The trio represented Singapore amongst participants from 55 countries around the world, and brought in Singapore's first Grand Champion win.

Inspired by groups like Little Mix, Destiny’s Child and En Vogue, SASS hopes to create a harmonious, yet edgy new sound of their own.

THE BOY WHO ASKED TOO MANY QUESTIONS

Charles asks Ms Tan, his biology teacher one too many question. She thinks he is trying to be difficult. He thinks she is very harsh. Charles finds himself gagged and bound; and asked to stand outside the classroom. He does not know why.

About Alec

Alec filmed TBWATMQ on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in 1999 with a S$5,000 grant from the Singapore Film Commission. It premiered at the Singapore International Film Festival 2000 held at the Goethe Institute. He then left for the US to study at the prestigious Yale School of Drama and in 2003 became the first Asian to graduate with a Masters of Fine Arts from its Directing programme. He stayed on in the US and his theatre work has been seen by audiences in New York, San Francisco, Hong Kong and Shanghai. His first feature film A BIG ROAD held its World Premiere at the SIFF 2009 where it was nominated for a Best Asian Film Award. Alec also participated in GE2011, standing in Bukit Panjang SMC on the SDP platform.

DOODU KARANI (traditional musician)
An authentic Bagobo-Tagabawa tribe descend from the City of Davao (Philippines) practicing the traditional Bagobo-Tagabawa tribe Philosophy, Arts & Culture. Doodu Karani is an ethno-visual artist, poet, songwriter, ethno-musical instrumentalist, dance choreographer & a ballet teacher. He is also an Autonomous Tribe’s Education System Guru, a Bagobo-Flex & Fitness Instructor, an advocate for Mindanao Tribe’s Liberation & Empowerment Agenda, a volunteer formatter for the Buluyan Tribal Formation Center of Mamaān, Sibulan, Toril, Davao City, and a Garden Operator & Designer for a living, practicing both Tribe’s Agri-Tech, Organic & Environmental friendly method.
He started making music in the 70’s with genres Ethno and contemporary. The songs he writes are in English and Bagobo-Tagabawa. He plays the guitar, hand drums, flute, and traditional instruments such as Kuglong (a string instrument), Kombeng (a wind instrument), Agung, and Kulintang.

MARYLYN TAN (poet)

Marylyn is a linguistics major at Nanyang Technological University. She hopes to continue amassing more obscure yet useful knowledge in time to come. Besides sometimes fumbling with words, she enjoys theatre, strange and wonderful art of any sort, and has recently discovered spoken word poetry. She has been called, among a slew of other things, an ‘erotic poet’. Marylyn believes in not being an open book, and writes for your bewilderment.

From sound healing to Avant-Garde music, Pablo is an eclectic music maker and multi-instrumentalist to whom music is above all a spiritual practice and a flying carpet. Currently a student of Classical Indian music and Master in Composition by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and an indefatigable traveler and researcher, he has also worked extensively with Theatre, spiritual and contemporary concert music in different parts of the world. In his opinion Music is a sound simile of the universe itself in a human creative scale. Be it through simple listening or active making it connects us to the Self and testifies to our oneness-with-all nature. In this edition of the Art Salon Pablo will be presenting a version of his current project called `Planetary Soul` that brings together in an original way many of the influences he has gathered along his life journey.

JOEL BERTRAND TAN (playwright / performer)

Joel Tan is a playwright and performer. He is as an Associate Artist with Checkpoint Theatre.
In 2011, he made his debut with W!LD RICE's production of Family Outing at the MAN Singapore Theatre Festival. His other plays have been staged with various young-people's theatre groups such as USProductions, NUS Stage, Takeoff Productions and Yellow Chair Productions. Upcoming productions of his work include Our Lady of Lourdes (Checkpoint Theatre, November 2014) and Mosaic (Take Off Productions, M1 Fringe Festival 2015).
Joel also writes essays on a diverse range of subjects, and his work can be read on POSKOD.sg and in Esquire Singapore.

ADAM ADHIYATMA (musician)

I am a guitarist, composer and improviser from Singapore. I started in rock and jazz bands – now I am more interested in noise, but those things are always close by.
I am interested in the formal and mystical boundaries of sound. Mystical: phenomenological or experiential rather than supernatural. Some of my favourite music combines clarity and detachment with hallucinatory intensity. I also like to think about voices; multiple voices issuing from the same body, hydras, and the ensuing confusion, and the ensuing ecstasy.
I am a dedicated student of the discipline of musical improvisation, and I see it, at different times, as a form of procedural music, sound meditation, healing, social corrective or catharsis – when it admits to verbal description.
In addition to a half-baritone guitar, I play (in decreasing order of skill) electric bass, synthesizer, alto clarinet, piano, trumpet, and am an enthusiastic if not skilled programmer in several audio languages. I have written and premiered works for chamber ensembles, solo guitar and electronics.
I got a B.A. from New York University. I studied for a time, while I was there, with Richard Carrick, Joe Morris, Jean-Michel Pilc.
I have premiered works by Marilyn Crispell, Adam Mirza, Ingrid Lee, Kevin Robinson, John Niekrasz and Bani Haykal(as well as my own) in venues in New York City, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Orlando, Florida.

ANJU (performer)
Anju started her dancing career at the age of 5 and never looked back. Dance has become her life since then. She did her Diploma in Classical Dance (Rabindra Nritya - a popular Indian Dancing style) in 1996 and she is also professional in Bollywood dance. As a devoted and passionate instructor, she has been teaching classical Indian dance and Bollywood dance for more than 10 years. Her rich experience in teaching has inspired and helped thousands of students to achieve their dreams and goals in dancing.
Besides her strong profession in dance teaching, she has also professionally performed in various functions and events in Indian for 12 long years in India since little. She moved to Singapore for her family and love in 2009. Her dance passion strives her to continue to teach Indian dance and bring this art form to more ladies who are enchanted by Indian music and dance.
She enjoys teaching Bollywood, Classical and semi classical Dances to one and all, in different levels. Students love her teaching style and are inspired by her passion and selfless sharing in her dance knowledge.

Ozzi is a citizen of the world on a nomads path. From north, central and South America, a little bit of Europe and now Asia. He's passionate about movement of the body, but in this opportunity he's sharing his desire for collective awakening. SHADES IN GREY (music)

Shades In Grey is collaboration between a singer/songwriter Roman Tarassov and producer/songwriter Sean Nerney (I Hate This Place). Taking inspiration from the likes of Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode and Roxette as well as a whole range of 80s music, Shades In Grey is a melodic pop/rock project that is based in Singapore.
It started in early 2012 when Roman came to his long time friend and collaborator Sean and pleaded him to record and produce the ideas that Roman has been developing. Sean agreed and a year later through recording and mostly acoustic performances there was enough material to solidify the plans for the 4 song EP. Entitled "I Can Tell You" the EP was released digitally in Oct 2013. With the addition of Mohandas on bass/vocals and Laurence Bucci on drums the band has been playing live in order to promote the new material in Singapore.

MARIEN GUILLÉ (poetry + music)

Marien GUILLÉ was born in France. His main job is writing Poetry but he doesn't want to leave Poetry in books. He organises different events and performs on stage to place Poetry on spotlight. He now travels in Asia to share his Poetry experience with different cultures and arts.

IT'S OKAY (11 mins)
Wei Xian is a 10-year-old boy who grows up in a working-class family. At home, he is a constant observer to the abuse his mother is subject to at the hands of his father. When the violence inevitably spills over, Wei Xian will have to find an outlet for his own pain.

Director's note:

Life itself is a long and painful journey for me as a budding film-maker to be. I usually explore themes that involve in everyday live situations especially the middle class people. I also love to play with  themes of self-help, psychology, depression, family especially which could depict a certain time-frame of the film where it was set. In a recent short film I directed called It’s Okay, I had a voice to say when I read the script. I had my own experiences with dealing family violence especially when my father faced unemployment and my mother and I suffered. Thus, I made the decision of setting this film to this particular era of Singapore where financial crisis were here to stay for a while. Not only this history gives a flavor to the mis en scene of the film and also gives more of a reason for the characters to behave more drastically.

Writer's note:

The story started out simply with an image of a red pail, an item present in almost every single Singaporean household, and a desire to imbue it with a story straight from the heartlands - domestic violence. Given such context, the innocent red pail in the story became the portrait of a broken family, and a moral lesson about the cycle of violence.

MARCO FERRARESE has travelled extensively and lived in Italy, the United States, China, Australia and Malaysia. He started vagabonding as a punk rock guitarist in Europe and North America. Since 2009 he's been based in Southeast Asia as a writer, hardcore punk musician and researcher. Being an overland buff, he travelled from Mongolia to Australia in 2009, and hitchhiked from Singapore to Milano through Silk Road routes and the Middle East in 2012. He's a resident blogger at Rolf Pott's Vagabonding, has written about overland Asian travel and extreme music in Asia for a variety of international publications, and blogs at monkeyrockworld.com. Marco's first Asian pulp novel Nazi Goreng  was published in November 2013 on Monsoon Books. Follow him @monkeyrockworld

Koon Hui is a Year 4.5 student at NUS majoring in Theatre Studies and Literature. He is (kind of) a dancer, (somewhat) a poet, (thinks himself to be) a playwright, (aspires to be) a drama educator, (has been) a director and (really enjoys being) a performer. He is pleased that he has works with the likes of many people of the theatre industry and is currently mentored by the power couple: Rodney Oliveiro and Serena Ho as part of W!LD Rice's young & W!LD new cohort.

CHERIN SIM (visual artist)

Born in Singapore in 1987, Cherin Sim is an artist who is trained in painting. She frequently employs installation to express her concerns about consumer culture. The inspiration behind her pivotal work, "A Birkin For You?", 2008, became the foundation for her subsequent pieces which often blurred the boundaries between fine art and fashion design.
Besides being an artist, Cherin is also an accomplished bag designer who has collaborated with international brands. She was conferred her second international award in 2009 in the Design-A-Bag Competition, where she was invited to Hong Kong Fashion Access to receive the prize. In the same year, she received the Winston Oh Undergraduate Practice Award. In 2013, she received the Winston Oh Postgraduate Research Scholarship and had her first relational art exhibition, "Bringing Back Tradition: The Leather Workshop”, in Singapore after being trained in leatherworking in Italy.

THE CELTIC ROVERS

SHYNZ PRODUCTIONS presents an Irish music performance by Celtic Rovers for SPORE Art Salon. The Celtic Rovers are made up of two classically trained, unique individuals, namely, Pamela Ng and Michelle Ong. The dynamic duo met in 2011 at their tertiary institution's piano ensemble where they started actively performing piano duets and classical works for school and charity events. Compelled by the beauty of Celtic music, they subsequently turned to playing Irish medleys on tin whistle, guitar and bodhrán (a traditional Irish drum). The pair hopes to share their experiences on folk music with the general public.
SHYNZ PRODUCTIONS (SP) is an arts edutainment company dedicated to raise the appreciation and awareness of performing arts. Headquartered and established in Singapore, the aim of SHYNZ PRODUCTIONS is to promote all styles and expressions, of music and dance performances where SP performers interact effortlessly with the audience and bring that extra dimension of sparkle to events. With a deep pool of talented musicians and dancers, SP's dedication to performing arts has entertained and educated all walks of audiences in Singapore and beyond.

bani haykal + ila is an audio-visual performance duo utilizing spoken word, overhead projections and various instruments. Their work is rooted in site-specific performances and revolves around thematic improvisation. Maisha is a lecturer, acoustician and a trained musician. Two years ago, she began to take an interest in the Arabic language and developed a special interest in oriental dance. YUZURU MAEDA (zentai performer)

Yuzuru is an artist and musician from Japan.

She has been working on the art project called 'Zentai Art Project', which is sound art, performance art and video works.

In her Zentai Art Project, she is  trying visualise her inspirations by expressing them in video frames and performances. Her generic theme for the project is about ‘Who am I’ and ‘What is the truth and reality’ in life. She thinks these answers are beyond what words can explain and she hopes to come closer to it through the series of Zentai Art videos, performance and music.

STEPHANIE DOGFOOT (poet)

Stephanie Dogfoot is a performance poet who has been writing poetry ever since her first gerbil died when she was 11. She writes about the joys and horrors of everyday human interaction, history, identity, growing up and things that make her angry. She performed her writing at a poetry slam for the first time on her a small cafe in Vancouver on her 21st birthday in 2008,,won the Singapore National Poetry Slam on her 23rd birthday in 2010, represented Singapore at the Indian Ocean Slam later that year. On her 25th birthday she found herself performing to a bunch of drunk teenagers at 6AM in the rain at a bonfire at a festival in Northern England. She honed her performances a little bit more at the backs of pubs,in squats and around more bonfires while living in London and won the UK National Slam in 2012. She has represented the UK at two European Slam Championships and at the Poetry World Cup 2013. She has also performed around Germany,at the Glastonbury Festival and also at the Edinburgh Fringe Festivalvwhere she took her solo show 'Foreigner Go Home (with me!)' She is currently a host of a monthly spoken word night called SPEAK at the Home Club as well as a member of an all-female spoken word troupe called Sekaliwags.

C MURDA (choregrapher / performer)

Charles Li aka C Murda picked up street dance styles in 2002 at the age of 16 in Sydney Australia. He specialises in the style of Popping, a style made most famous by popular icons such as Michael Jackson. He is also able to create complex choreography depending on the nature of the class he is teaching. Charles has performed and competed in various battles, corporate events, dance showcase competitions in Singapore.

BABUSHKA (world music trio)

Babushka was formed when neo-classical guitar shredder Fauzo decided to flesh out his solo performances with additional musicians.
