Plus, a very special presentation cum film screening by iPartner India, a UK-based charity organisation. Hear all about their plans in the pipeline to raise awareness of child trafficking that is happening in a country too close to home, India, and how you might be able to lend a helping hand. Lastly, don't forget those drawing materials! We have with us this March, a return of a previous model who will be adding some performative elements to her practice of life drawing posing. Stay warm and dry lest the flu bug catches up, and see you on the 27th!

----------------------------

SPORE Art Salon is a non-profit initiative created for visual artists to meet, mingle, inspire, and share with performing artists. During the event, we alternate between drawing sessions with live models, and performances from musicians, contortionists, poets, dancers, actors and more. We also feature works of, and demonstrations by visual artists, individually or collaboratively.

For those who are new to the art salon, our event is modeled after world famous Giles Larrain's Art Salon in NYC, with a distinctly Singaporean twist and flavour!

There is a minimum donation of $7/person at the door, and proceeds will benefit our featured artists. The bar and kitchen will be open, so come have some drinks and dinner, meet, mingle and inspire with fellow creatives of various disciplines. Guests are encouraged to participate in the life drawing sessions in between performances, so, bring your sketch materials along!

SPECIAL CAUSE FEATURE:

iPartner India
http://www.ipartnerindia.org/

iPartner India is a UK based charity that is at the forefront of a new kind of international philanthropy. They help individuals, families, advisors, companies, charitable trusts and foundations discover, get involved with and continue to support inspiring projects in India. iPartner works hard to connect donors with strikingly effective initiatives which currently fall outside the priorities of established agency funding. We recognise that helping these organisations grow to the next level will help raise the bar for the entire voluntary sector in India. We have an extensive network of partners in India who have been carefully selected for maximum impact and effectiveness. We currently work with 42 organisations in 16 States of India.

Join Sarah Kuehne, marketing and events consultant of iPartner India, as we screen some inspiring past works of documentaries (directed by Amir Amirani), made of collaborative initiatives by iPartner India and other organisations. Hear about their next project on raising support plus awareness on child trafficking in India and how you might be able to lend a helping hand.

We will be screening -
1) Barefoot College 08:28
2) Azad Foundation 06:13

 FEATURED PERFORMANCE ARTISTS:

NG YI-SHENG (host)

CHER (model)
Cher is not one thing, but many things. A general mischief-maker, she is also a feminist, artist, urban explorer, voracious reader, activist, hedonist, introvert, eco-conscious wanker, nerd, and blah blah blah.

To borrow from writer and poet Audre Lorde, "If I didn't define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people's fantasies for me and eaten alive." She has been life modelling for slightly more than 2 years and is interested in more performative aspects of the practice.

VERENA TAY

 (storyteller)
http://verenatay.com/
For more than 25 years, Verena Tay has acted, directed and written for local English-language theatre in Singapore. Three collections of her plays have been published: In the Company of Women: Selected Plays (2004), In the Company of Heroes (2011) and Victimology (2011). She is now working on her first volume of short stories and debut novel. Apart from theatre, Verena brings stories vocally and physically alive in her unique fashion. She chooses her storytelling repertoire carefully, adapting folktales with strong characters or creating original tales with a twist. Where possible, she invests her quirky brand of humour, especially in her stories for adults, to delight and encourage her audience to appreciate a different perspective on life. Together with Kamini Ramachandran with whom she founded MoonShadow Stories in November 2004, Verena has been telling stories at various community venues across Singapore, much to the delight and enjoyment of adults and children. A Professional Member and founding member of the Storytelling Association (Singapore), she has successfully coached members of the SAS and members of the public to improve their craft of telling stories through various courses, particularly her intermediate level workshop, Beyond Storytelling 101, that she has been conducting on a regular basis since 2008.
Outside of theatre and storytelling since 2005, Verena has taught voice, speech and presentation skills at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University and other local institutions.

ATIQAH LUKMAN (poet)
Atiqah is currently working as a part-time speech and drama instructor for primary school children. A junior college graduate, she is still waiting for her university application results and hopes to take a degree in Sociology. She enjoys theatre, drawing, a good slam and the occasional graphic novel. In her spare time, Atiqah can be found penning down insanity in ink or getting lost in cyberspace, but with a few good friends. She currently lives with her mother, three siblings, and a cat named Crackers, and plans to settle down someday with someone who can cook and kick ass in video games.

AMANDA TEE (singer/songwriter)
http://amandatee.com/
Amanda Tee started playing and singing in public about 8 years ago. Going from busking for charities to playing at bars and writing her own songs, she realized that maybe songwriting was calling out to her as strongly as nature calls on every mortal. Along the way she discovered the power that the right words had in a song, and began to concentrate on the lyrical parts of her songs. This can be heard on her recently-released EP, Take It or Leave It, bringing on a raw and intimate sound, taking the acoustic singer-songwriter style back to its roots. Amanda has played on all kinds of stages, including the streets, schools, and even walked about from table to table at a restaurant. Her songs have also been featured on 93.8 LIVE fm and on Power 98, and she's taken on more impressive venues such as The Esplanade, the National University of Singapore's UCC, *SCAPE, Timbre, Wala Wala and many more. She is in the midst of writing for a full-length album, and you might just be her next inspiration!
